Our Mission at Spirit of Joy is to be a community where lives are transformed by the love of Jesus. Our values are Worship, Inclusion, Community, and Service. All of our ministries are directly tied to these core aspects of our identity. You can find a few of the ways we live into this identity here. We have ministries that connect us to each other and to our community – serving those around us in need.
Community Groups are small groups of people (~8-12) who commit to serving, studying and having fun together for a season. They meet for Bible Study twice per month, meet for an agenda free time of fellowship once per month, and use their time the remaining week of the month to serve Fort Collins, partnering with such organizations as CROP Walk, Faith Family Hospitality, Lutheran Family Services, Mosaic, and the Food Bank. Community Groups are always open to new members including adults and youth (Middle School and older).
Children and Youth
Kids of Joy is a Sunday School program that meets weekly (except for the first Sunday of the month) from September through April at 9:45. Kids from pre-K through 5th grade are invited.
Our Middle School youth are invited to participate in our confirmation program through FoCoLu, a partnership among the four local Lutheran (ELCA) congregations. We meet as FoCoLu on Wednesday evenings for confirmation class, and we also meet on Sunday mornings at Spirit of Joy for lessons and activities based on the week's scripture readings.
Our High School youth gather every Sunday evening for youth community group, where we rotate through faith-based discussions, service projects and social outings. We also join with our FoCoLu partners for additional ministry opportunities including summer mission trips.
In addition to weekly youth meetings, our youth director Hannah plans a variety of service projects, fun and social events, and spiritual growth opportunities for all middle and high school youth.
If you have questions about any of our youth activities, you may email Hannah.
Liturgy is the work of the people. We are not consumers; we are participants. All are invited to get involved in the worship life of Spirit of Joy. There are many vital roles for Sunday morning, such as readers, communion servers, bread bakers and more.
To be part of our music ministry, such as band, vocals, sound board or projection, email Elijah.
Faith Family Hospitality
Three times per year, for a week at a time, Spirit of Joy provides a warm meal and a safe place to stay for four homeless families. We partner with other Fort Collins churches in this project coordinated by Larimer County Faith Family Hospitality: “…supporting families from homelessness to self-sufficiency.”
We have beautiful hand knit or crocheted prayer shawls distributed to those facing a time of crisis. The SoJ Joyful Hands group provides these shawls with a prayer that those who wear them will be wrapped in God’s love as surely as they are wrapped in the comfort of these shawls.
Spirit of Joy Quilters is a group of caring women who gather twice monthly to make quilts for those in need. These quilts are distributed throughout the world through Lutheran World Relief, and locally to refugees and asylees through Lutheran Family Services. Our quilters meet regularly on the second and fourth Wednesdays at 9 am.
Each month members of Spirit of Joy’s book club meet for fellowship and lively discussion of a contemporary book chosen by the group. Visitors are always welcome at our gatherings on the third Wednesday at 1 pm.
Spirit of Joy is blessed to have enough property to offer garden plots to members and neighbors. Each gardener makes at least one offering contribution of produce to the Larimer County Food Bank during the season.
Spirit of Joy enjoys fellowship and exercise in the company of members and friends in a summer church league softball team.
