What to expect
At Spirit of Joy, you should expect to encounter a group of friendly, welcoming people who believe in a God who is full of grace, mercy, and love. You should expect a worship celebration that is both rooted in the deep traditions of the Church and is approachable and comprehensible in our current context. Most of all you should expect to feel invited into our ministry from your first visit.
Worship Times and Style
We have two worship services, but three distinct styles. The 8:30 service retains more liturgical structure, using Lutheran liturgies that will be familiar to those who have long been a part of this tradition. At 8:30 music leadership rotates between a bluegrass band and a traditional pianist. At 10:30 there is a contemporary worship service with current songs and slightly less structure. While this service does not use pre-written liturgies, it retains all of the essentials, including Confession, Creed, reading and preaching from the Word (the Bible), and celebration of the Lord’s Supper.
The Lord’s Supper (Holy Communion)
The Lord’s Supper is celebrated at all Sunday worship services. All are welcome at the Lord’s Table, including children of all ages. Gluten free wafers and grape juice are offered, as well as bread and wine.
Nursery / Child Care
We LOVE babies and you are completely welcome to keep your children with you in the worship service, even if they get fussy. However, if you choose, we have a fully staffed nursery for both Sunday morning service times.
What should I wear?
Whatever you want… Spirit of Joy has a very casual culture. Our congregation is not one to be hung up on formalities. When we say you are welcome here, we mean the real you… bring your questions, your doubts, your fears, and anything else you carry with you – and don’t feel a need to cover any of who you are in the façade of your Sunday best.
